Efren Reyes was born in Pampanga, in the Philippines on the 26th of August 1954. At the age of 5, moved with his parents to Manila where he worked as a billiards attendant at his uncle's billiard hall and it is here that he first learned the skills of the various cue sports. It appears that he was quite a hustler from a very young age playing three cushion (Carambola) billiards for money.
Eventually he became noticed by promoters locally and was invited to compete in tournaments. He won a number of tournaments in the Philippines, the USA, Europe and in some parts of Asia and thus gained a worldwide reputation on occasions having to use an alias to hide his identity in order for him to be invited to compete! By the 1990s he had become established as one of the best pool players in the world to come out of the Philippines. In his spare time, Efren enjoys playing chess and cockfighting. Efren Reyes Achievements in Pool
Somewhere along the way, Efren Reyes managed to pick up two nicknames: the first being 'Bata' which means youth or kid in Filipino and the other being ' The Magician' which probably came about because of Efren's consummate skill in being able to kick balls safe off a cushion or indeed to kick balls into pockets from off a cushion. Efren uses a Judd cue.
